A western Sydney father-of-four who police allege was supplying the drug methylamphetamine in Sydney’s west has faced court.

Hector Tinania, 37, of Mt Druitt, faced Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday charged with supplying a prohibited drug and having custody of a knife in a public place.

According to court documents, police allege Tinania supplied 12.4g of meth on Oxford St, Cambridge Park, on the afternoon of September 7.

They will also allege Tinania was carrying a knife at the time of the alleged offending.

During a bail application, the court heard Tinania had a history of noncompliance with court orders.

“He has call ups for different matters, he’s breached bail on two occasions, he has warrants for non-appearance at court, and he’s had charges of contravening AVOs,” the prosecutor said.

She opposed bail, saying the supply of meth was of “great concern” to the community, and told the court Tinania had made admissions during a recorded interview with police.

Tinania’s lawyer said this was his first drug charge on his record, and that he would possibly defend the charges.

She also said Tinania had a decade-long gap in his offending from 2010 to the current charges.

In applying for bail, the lawyer told Magistrate Hiatt Tinania was a carer for his two elderly parents.

She said Tinania lost his job as a supervisor at a transport company in February due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but had since picked up casual work.

Magistrate Hiatt said the case against Tinania was “strong”, but acknowledged the length of time since his last appearance in court.

He granted strict conditional bail on the charges.

Tinania must live at an address in Mt Druitt, report to police twice a week, and only own one mobile phone at any time.

He must also have a responsible person offer up a surety of $2000.

He will next appear in Penrith Local Court on September 17.
