Batoul Sleibi el Dirani to fight charges over fatal St Mary’s crash that killed grandmother Robyn Oxley

The woman charged over a fatal crash that killed a beloved St Mary’s grandmother late last year plans to fight the allegations.

The woman charged over a fatal crash that killed a beloved St Mary’s grandmother late last year plans to fight the allegations, a court has heard.

Colyton woman Batoul Sleibi el Dirani, 29, appeared in Penrith Local Court on Friday charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after the fatal crash and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

A lawyer appearing for El Dirani told the court his client would be pleading not guilty to both sets of charges.

Police allege that in the early hours of October 8, the 29-year-old lost control of the car she was driving while allegedly speeding, causing it to plough into the bedroom of a St Mary’s home where 62-year-old Robyn Oxley was sleeping at the time.

Tragically, Ms Oxley died at the scene with NSW Paramedics unable to save the beloved grandmother.

Immediately after the impact, the court heard it is alleged El Dirani pulled attempted to flee the scene before she was arrested.

The court also heard that Following her arrest, El Dirani was taken to Nepean Hospital where she allegedly assaulted a police officer.

On Friday, the court heard crucial documents were missing from the prosecution‘s brief of evidence including post mortem reports, phone records, body worn footage and blood and urine samples which would delay the matters progressing to charge certification.

The court also heard there were two police witnesses who were willing to give evidence

A previous court hearing heard in the lead up to the alleged crash, El Dirani had been suffering mental health issues which were not being properly treated.

The court also heard El Dirani had spent a significant amount of time in hospital since the alleged incident, receiving psychiatric care and medication. The court also heard that She does not have any previous criminal history.

Ms Dirani is due to reappear in court on March 10.
