Police allege in the early hours of October 8 the 29-year-old lost control of the speeding car she was driving causing it to plough into the bedroom of a St Mary’s home where 62-year-old Robyn Oxley was sleeping at the time.

Tragically, Ms Oxley died at the scene with NSW Paramedics unable to save the beloved grandmother.

Immediately after the impact El Dirani pulled her baby from the backseat and attempted to flee the scene before she was arrested.

Following her arrest El Dirani was taken to Nepean Hospital where she allegedly assaulted a police officer, with the court hearing she was having a psychotic episode and hallucinating at the time.

On Friday, the court heard El Dirani had been suffering significant mental health concerns including psychosis which was not being properly treated in the lead up to the crash.

The court also heard El Dirani had spent a significant amount of time in hospital since the alleged incident receiving psychiatric care and medication and did not have any previous criminal history.

A lawyer for El Dirani said she should be granted bail to look after her family.

He said his client’s husband, who was present for the court proceedings, was a full time finance analyst and would work from home to stay near his wife if she was granted bail.

She must report to St Mary’s police station twice a week and continue receiving psychiatric treatment and prescribed medication.

The matters will return to court on January 27.
