North St Marys will soon be home to its first KFC store and the first 24/7 operated KFC in the state, after council green-lit plans to have it developed.

The new store was approved by Penrith City Council on April 11 and is earmarked to open at 2 Christie St, St Marys.

The restaurant, which will also be open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, will be integrated into an existing 7/11 service station on the corner of Christie St and Forrester Rd.

It is understood this will be the first KFC restaurant in NSW to be open 24/7. The only other KFC restaurant with similar hours is in George St in Sydney’s CBD, which is open 24 hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The 7/11 will undergo minor changes, but development plans state the new KFC restaurant will be built on the right-hand side of the existing service station, with a single lane drive thru on the left-hand side which will wrap around the back of the building.

Inside, the new store will seat 18 people and include a delivery area for mobile and food delivery orders. A disabled toilet is also pictured in layout plans.

Nine current car parks will be removed to make way for the new restaurant.

The entire project is estimated to cost more than $3m.

The new store will mark a first for St Marys residents, who have otherwise needed to travel to Emerton, St Clair or Minchinbury for KFC.

St Marys has also been identified as a major growth corridor for the Penrith area, with council in March endorsing a plan to transform the town centre in line with an expected population boom.
