80-year-old man refused bail on string of sexual charges

An 80-year-old man has appeared before Penrith Local Court on a string of historical sex offences.
The man was arrested at his Werrington home this morning after an investigation of the alleged historical sexual abuse of three young girls in the early 1980s.
Police will allege he sexually abused three women, then aged between 10 and 17, in 1982 and 1983 across southern Sydney and the Southern Highlands.
They allege the offences occurred in Sutherland, Jannali, Gymea, Padstow and Mittagong.
He was charged with eight counts of sexual assault/indecent act with a person under 16 years, four counts of sexual assault/incite indecent act on a person under 16 years, five counts of carnal knowledge, attempt carnal knowledge, and common assault.
He was refused bail by police, and formally refused bail in Penrith Local Court today.
He will next appear in court on May 8.
