A man flew into a terrifying rage and smashed his ex-partner’s car, belongings and threatened to shot her and kill her dog.
Alex McMaster, 29, appeared via audiovisual link before Penrith Local Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to destroy/damage property and stalk/intimidate.
McMaster and his ex-partner parted ways in mid-January, after roughly one year together.
On January 26, the couple were at their shared Cambridge Park home when McMaster became angered by a Facebook post made by the victim, according to court documents.
He left in his mother’s car and, out of fear he may return, his ex left with a friend.
McMaster messaged her on Facebook and she informed him that she didn’t want any further contact before blocking his number, preventing him from calling her.
At 8:30pm, the victim returned to their home and 5 minutes later McMaster began kicking at the front door.
Fearing for her safety, the victim didn’t let McMaster in and he left.
The victim called a friend who arrived and went inside the home.
Shortly after, McMaster came back and started erratically pacing the street before approaching the house and yelling “I am going to shoot you, my mates are going to come and shoot you too…”, according to court documents.
The victim and her friend left while McMaster stayed, still trying to get in.
The victim saw this on the home’s livestream cameras and, fearing that McMaster would damage her belongings, she remotely set off the alarm prompting McMaster to leave.
He returned shortly after and continued messaging her but she ignored him and went to bed.
The next morning, she had about a hundred messages from McMaster.
Some of the messages McMaster sent included: “I will get someone to murder ur dog in front of u u wanna play games let’s play” and “get ur dog if not I’m breaking its neck watch me…”.
He later messaged her on Facebook saying “burning ur clothes and bike”, “good luck getting ur bond back, someone smashed your car window” and “ur days are numbered princess … can’t wait u poor little innocent girl at the end of the day nothing will help you”.
The victim contacted police and officers went to his Cambridge Park home and asked to search the property as he has a current firearms prohibition order.
No items of interest were found, the court heard.
A domestic violence statement was taken from the victim as well as photographs of damaged items.
Damage to the crossfire trail bike will cost approximately $1000 to repair, according to court documents.
Damage to the victim’s car and a smashed windscreen will cost approximately $5000.
McMaster was taken to St Marys police station where he declined to participate in an interview.
Magistrate Fiona Toose said she was appalled by McMaster’s behaviour.
“If you’re going to go around fathering children, you need to grow up and get off the drugs,” she said.
“I don’t believe given your history and unresolved drug issues that you’d comply with court orders and you just finished a custodial sentence with the district court which shows that custody didn’t work because you reoffended.”
McMaster was convicted on both charges and will serve nine months imprisonment for the destroy or damage property and 18 months for the stalk and intimidate, with a non-parole period of 12 months.
