Woman allegedly stole bobcat, tipper truck from western Sydney

A woman who allegedly stole $285,000 worth of commercial equipment, including a $55,000 bobcat, has been granted bail.

A Rydalmere woman faced court today charged over the large-scale fraud and theft of commercial hire equipment.

Claire Elder, 33, was arrested at a house in Ashcroft St, Ermington yesterday a month after Cumberland police started an investigation into the large-scale fraud and theft of commercial hire equipment from businesses in Auburn, Seven Hills and Campbelltown.

Police seized unreturned hire cars, an Isuzu Tipper truck and other vehicles. A bobcat, worth $55,000, was previously recovered from a Guildford home.

The woman, who is unemployed, was taken to Granville police station where she was charged with two counts of larceny as bailee property value more than $15,000, two counts of driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period, larceny as bailee property worth more than $5000 and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.

Police allege the woman defrauded the company of equipment of almost $285,000.

She appeared at Parramatta Local Court today and was granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday December 11.

Inquiries continue.
