AFTER a hectic few years in the Marvel universe, Finn Jones is taking some time out of his well-earned holiday to travel down under.

Jones, who shot to fame as Ser Loras Tyrell in popular HBO show Game of Thrones and later as the lead in Netflix series Iron Fist, will join a host of stars from film, television, games and comics at the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming in Sydney next week.

The 30-year-old English actor said he was looking forward to spending time in Australia, including his first visit to Sydney.

“What I’ve found from Australia is it’s very nice,” he said.

“Everyone’s really cool and just really down to earth.”

Jones himself can be described as down to earth, bouncing from topics like the rise of Netflix and the positive impact investing in television has on storytelling, to his role in Iron Fist and whether he misses being part of Game of Thrones, which is wrapping up filming of its eighth and final season.

After spending the majority of his 20s on the show, it is clear it had a significant impact on his life, but Jones said his character’s demise came at the right time.

“It was a really life-changing experience but I’d been on the show for six years and I was looking to move on and find a bigger role in a television show or movie, so it felt like a natural end to a chapter in my life,” he said.

That bigger role came along almost immediately in the form of Iron Fist, a series based on the Marvel comic character and aired on Netflix.

“... I remember at the time Netflix was up and coming and they seemed like a really interesting platform to work with,” Jones said.

After finishing filming of season one of Iron Fist, Jones went straight into filming The Defenders - a miniseries that saw Danny Rand teamed up with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) to save New York City.

After a mammoth schedule, Jones is enjoying some down time.

He will soon fly to Australia for Supanova, where he will be joined by a range of stars including Stephen Amell (Arrow, TMNT: Out of the Shadows), Chuck Norris (Walker, Texas Ranger), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) and Summer Glau (Arrow, Serenity, Firefly).

The all-ages event at Sydney Showground will showcase a range of topics across sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, anime, manga, games and cosplay.

It also gives actors like Jones the chance to meet their fans.

“It’s awesome because we spend so many months making these shows and it’s always nice to go and see the people who are watching the shows and see how much it means to people,” he said.
