Some players listen to music, shadow box or chat with a teammate but Andrew Redmayne does something completely different before he runs out for Sydney FC.

The star footballer, who honed his junior skills with the Gosford City Dragons and now lives on the north shore, has taken up juggling to keep his senses sharp for his job as the Sydney FC goalie.

“Before a game I started juggling in the change room and it helps with hand, eye co-ordination,” said Redmayne ahead of today’s season finale at Bankwest Stadium at Parramatta against Melbourne City.

“Our strength and conditioning coach said to get the brain going why not try this. He has worked with some doctors who do it before surgery.”

Before Wednesday’s semi-final Redmayne watched a clip of an F1 driver juggling and incorporated it into his own warm-up.

“It really sharpens the hand eye co-ordination up,” he said.

The shot-stopper, who moved from the Western Sydney Wanderers three years ago, was the man of the moment in last years grand final with two spectacular penalty shootout saves delivering the Sky Blues the win.

Sydney FC beat Perth Glory 2-0 in the A-League semi-finals on Wednesday night to confirm their spot in a third A-League grand final title in four years.

“There is excitement but with the season we had not to walk away with the main prize would be disappointing,” said Redmayne of the match-up with Melbourne City.
