Granville residents should count their blessings after no injuries were reported during a wild storm that saw giant trees crash on to cars and homes, block roads and force roofs to fall off stores on Sunday afternoon.
Parramatta SES unit commander Tim Dykes said Granville was the worst affected suburb in the area and Railway St bore the brunt of damage.
“That street was our worst — we had six jobs on that one street,’’ he said.
“It was a very short but extreme cell of weather that caused over 30 jobs for the Parramatta area.’’
SES crews responded to jobs including a giant gum tree crashing on to the street and crushing a parked red car, which fortunately, had no occupants.
“It would have killed them,’’ Mr Dykes said.
At Parramatta Rd, the ferocious gusts whipped off part of a roof at a furniture store before it landed on cars parked beside the building.
Mr Dykes said after Fairfield, Granville was Sydney’s worst affected suburb during the storm.
