Constable Ankit Thangasamy, who was charged with an alleged sexual assault in the Sydney CBD, has told Parramatta Local Court he will represent himself.

On Thursday, Magistrate Peter Feather asked the 31 year old why he had not arranged legal representation to which Constable Thangasamy said he was not told he was not eligible for Legal Aid, which is available for economically and socially disadvantaged people.

In March, the Central Metropolitan Region constable was charged with sexual intercourse without consent after an investigation officers from the Professional Standards Command started in December.

The alleged incident occurred on Friday December 17 between 1.53am and 2.05am.

At court, he was handed a charge certificate and is expected to enter pleas on September 8, when the matter was adjourned to the same location.

Magistrate Feather explained to the Greystanes cop that a guilty plea would allow him a discount to the indictable offence or pleading not guilty would lead the matter to go to trial at Parramatta District Court.

His bail was continued.
