The relatives of a man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death at their Berala home on Monday openly wept as he appeared in court for the first time.
Mu Rong Hong appeared in Burwood Local Court today heavily medicated as he was charged with murder following the alleged domestic-related incident on Harrow Rd on Monday.
Hong, 62, was escorted in custody wearing a white forensic jumpsuit and appeared expressionless only metres away from distraught relatives who were seated in the courtroom and comforting each other.
On Monday, emergency services were called to the address just before 10am and found Hong’s 52-year-old wife suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Paramedics treated her at the scene but she later succumbed to her injures.
Police later arrested him and took him to Auburn Police Station.
It was alleged there was a witness who saw part of the alleged stabbing.
At Burwood Local Court the relatives consoled each other outside the court room after Hong’s brief appearance before shielding their faces as they exited the building from a side garage.
Outside court, Hong’s legal representative, Fadi Abbas, said it was a difficult situation for all parties involved.
Mr Abbas said Hong is heavily medicated, and made an application before Magistrate Alison Viney for him to have access to prescribed medication in custody, which he has been a long-term user of.
Hong was refused bail and will reappear at Burwood Local Court via video link on January 15, 2020.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
