Jim Malamas second man charged over Merrylands West crash that led to Claire Georgey’s death

A second man has been charged with 11 offences — including street racing on a busy western Sydney highway — that led to the death of a beloved 22-year-old woman described as a “ray of light’’.

A second man — Jim Malamas — has been charged over a crash at Merrylands West on September 7 that led to the death of 22-year-old “ray of light” Claire Georgey a week later.

Police were called to the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and Bruce St after Miss Georgey’s Subaru Forrester collided with the Nissan Skyline Mohammad Saleh was driving about 10.30pm.

Miss Georgey, a former Merrylands High School student, was rushed to Westmead Hospital but died on September 14.

Saleh, 32, and his 32-year-old male passenger were taken to Westmead Hospital suffering internal injuries.

Crash Investigation Unit officers charged Saleh with seven offences — including street racing and dangerous driving occasioning death — on September 30.

Saleh, of Guildford, appeared at court on October 2 when he was granted bail.

On Wednesday at 9.15am, Malamas, a 43-year-old Greystanes man, attended Parramatta police station where he was arrested.

He was charged with 11 offences: aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed more than 45km/hr over limit, two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – speed more than 45 km/hr over limit, dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous, two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive speed dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm), organise, promote race between vehicles, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court today where he was granted condition bail to reappear at the same court on November 26.

Miss Georgey was remembered as an angel by family and friends who took to social media to express their grief.

“Gone too soon precious Angel Claire. Love you forever Claire such a bright, beaming light,’’ one friend wrote.
