Lids, the official merchandise supplier to the National Basketball Association (NBA), will open at Parramatta Westfield and Westpoint Blacktown in spring and has already debuted its Sydney presence at Macquarie Centre in North Ryde.
The brand sells more than 30 million hats each year and stocks athletic wear from the National Football League and Major League Baseball, with almost 1200 stores in the US and Canada.
It is expected to open at Blacktown on September 10 and Parramatta in early October.
The brand will bring to Australia “the largest selection of headwear and jerseys, collector sneakers, sports jerseys, footwear and caps”.
Lids already made its Aussie debut in Victoria with forays in Westfield Geelong and the Emporium Melbourne shopping mall in August.
While Lids is no secret to sports fans and fashionistas that have travelled through the US, Lids president Britten Maughan said it was a first for retail in Australia, where more shops were earmarked in metropolitan locations before the end of the year.
“Australians already love Lids, with a strong rapport of loyal customers with feedback of wanting Lids in Australia,’’ he said.
“We’re excited to bring our brand and products to market.’’
The stores will house its signature custom zones that allow patrons to embroider a hat or piece of clothing, including player numbers and autographs.
The Lids stores are being established in Australia as part of a recent international expansion to support its growing fanbase around the world, including the UK and Mexico. The Aussie addition will take the number of Lids stores outside North America to 100.
Indianapolis-based Lids also operates the newly opened NHL and NBA flagship stores in New York City.
