Get a coin for the jukebox and put on your elastic pants because retro-inspired milk bar Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches is bringing its stuffed sandwiches and Nutella fountain to Parramatta Square from Wednesday.

Sandwiches brimming with lashings of meat are on the menu in a diner inspired by 1950s US eateries and classic Aussie milk bars, in the underground link connecting the train station to the $3.2 billion Parramatta Square.

Described as a “slice of the bygone era’’, the “mighty tasty’’ rolls are stuffed with extra portions of meat and cheese and dressed in bold, tangy sauces.

White, wholemeal or gluten-free subs are stuffed with options that have a New York deli theme — think slow-roasted brisket or the signature pastrami with brined and pepper-crusted beef topped with Swiss cheese or mustard, or “sloppy” Russian dressing, coleslaw and Swiss cheese (each $15).

As well as the crispy bacon and hot pepper spread, the avocado option is thrown in but really Harvey’s is for those who unashamedly embrace their love for meat.

The signature subs are $16 and lay on the temptation of Philly Cheesesteak (shaved scotch fillet steak, onions, provolone cheese and hot pepper spread) and the Muffuletta (mortadella, ham, salami, olive spread, with Swiss and provolone cheese).

The parmigiana looks irresistible thanks to its herbed crumbed breast, roast garlic butter, marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.

Chicken lovers are in for a treat with the Nashville hot chicken (buttermilk fried chicken tenders, vinegar slaw and pickles) or prove you’re a true carnivore with the beef dip sub, offering a grilled beef fillet, horseradish mayo, grilled cheese, provolone cheese and au jus.

The $14 classic subs — double smoked ham, salad, chicken schnitzel, club, poached chicken and meatball — round out the menu along with the breakfast rolls.

Wash the hearty slabs down with freshly-made lemonade or a float, or save room for the decadent cookie sandwiches, topped with warm, oozing Nutella from the on-site Nutella fountain.

The sandwich bar is near Betty’s Burgers and Fishbowl in the square’s underground link, which opens on to the public domain, where gelataria Rivareno, LilyMu and CicciaBella opened last week.

Harvey is owned by Chifley Square’s District Brasserie, whose footprint on Parramatta Square will broaden to include Ruse Bar & Brasserie and Threefold Pastry, by Christmas.

Ruse Bar & Brasserie owner John Vissaritis said the bar was named after Parramatta pioneer James Ruse so it could have a connection to the community.

“People want to engage with their food and that’s why we’ve designed Ruse Bar & Brasserie with an exposed kitchen galley – we want people to be immersed in a rich sensory experience of smells, sights and sounds with the Josper and Basque open fire grills at the centre of the brasserie kitchen bringing charcoal and fire, along with the depth of flavour it offers by using quality and locally sourced produce.

“These three eateries are all about pushing boundaries with new ideas.’’
