Harry’s Cafe de Wheels: Greystanes new location for world famous pies

An iconic Sydney eatery — famous for its smashed-pea pies and visits by A-list celebrities — has opened another store in Sydney’s west.

It has fed night owls, royalty and Hollywood A-listers — now Harry’s Cafe de Wheels has opened a 1950s-style diner at Greystanes and South Windsor.

Pining for some smashed peas on your meat pie? If you live in the Hawkesbury you won't have to travel far to get your fix of pies because the iconic Harry's Cafe de Wheels has opened at South Windsor.

The diner style restaurant at 752 George St is the most "modern and refined" of the eateries and will celebrate with a weekend of $3 hot dogs over the Anzac Day long weekend.

The opening of the South Windsor Harry's comes six months after the Greystanes branch opened at 601-605 Great Western Highway, where beers, ciders and spirits are served alongside signature smashed-pea pies as well as burgers, breadrolls, milkshakes, hot dogs and waffles on its breakfast menu.

“Our new store combines modern-age technologies and styles, with themes reminiscent of ’50s diners and our shiny airstream-style food trailers we’ll be rolling out more across NSW,’’ a Harry’s spokesman said ahead of its October opening.

“Customers can enjoy a bite with a beer while dining in, or order Harry’s for takeaway or delivery. New look, same old but gold Harry’s experience.”

Beers include Corona, VB and Stone and Wood, while Somersby drops are on offer for cider fans or vodka Cruisers to get into spirits.

Harry’s devotees haven’t had a local smashed pea pie fix since 2017 when the trailer at Church St North Parramatta closed to make way for construction of the Parramatta Light Rail.

Foodies living in the Hawkesbury and South Coast can also look forward to demolishing a pie or hot dog.

Harry’s Cafe de Wheels opened at Woolloomooloo in 1936, when Harry “Tiger” Edwards saw the need for a late-night noshery for cabbies, cops, soldiers and sailors from the nearby naval base.
