A man is in a critical condition after he collided with a car at Kissing Point Rd, Dundas, today.
The 29-year-old man was flown to Westmead Hospital after he sustained serious head and facial injuries before 2.30pm when a red Peugot sedan driven by a 50-year-old man struck him.
CareFlight’s helicopter responded to the incident and landed at St Patrick’s Marist College before crews made their way to the scene of the incident where four paramedics were providing initial treatment.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor intubated the man roadside and placed the man in an induced coma to stabilise him.
The CareFlight aeromedical team continued treatment while the man was driven to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
The Constitution Hill driver was also taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.
The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit has started inquiries and the car involved was taken for forensic examination.
Four crews responded to the incident.
NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Inspector Dominic Wong said the incident was traumatic for all involved.
“When paramedics arrived it was quite a frenzied scene, with everyone doing their best to get to the patient,’’ he said.
“This is really traumatic for everyone involved – for those who saw the patient on the road and called triple zero and for our paramedics and other emergency services.”
The incident follows the death of a pedestrian who was crossing Marsden Rd at Dundas Valley on Sunday January 12.
The 79-year-old woman was struck about 10.45pm when she tried to cross the street, near the intersection with Kissing Point Rd.
She suffered critical injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital but died shortly afterwards.
Last month, Parramatta Council called for the RMS to compile a report into the Quarry Rd-Kissing Point Rd black spot.
Parramatta councillor Donna Davis said drivers had been “putting up with this death trap of an intersection for years and with the volume of traffic rapidly increasing the RMS has failed to make it safe”.
“At anytime of the day motorists turning in and out of Quarry Rd take risks driving across Kissing Point Rd because of obscured vision, a congested slip lane and speeding traffic.”
The council wants vacant land on the state-owned Kissing Point Rd to be converted into a slip lane to improve access to Quarry Rd and ease congestion at the dicey intersection.
“It makes sense for the RMS to investigate this and other options to improve safety,’’ Cr Davis said.
