St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas graduates Luke and Anton Sheridan have a competitive streak but also credit their similar HSC results on sibling support.
Anton received 99.80 and Luke followed closely with 99.65, stellar ATARs that have seen them accepted to study the same law and arts degree at Sydney University.
Anton, the school dux, said he and Luke made a good team.
“We’ve always been pretty competitive with each other and drive each other to work pretty hard,’’ he said.
“We are very close. We have very similar personalities and ways of thinking. That was a huge bonus for the HSC.
“After the trials we realised we could help each other a lot more and we could share our notes and collaborate and bounce our ideas back and forth.”
Despite their academic flair, they were shocked at their HSC results.
“When you’re a twin you have double the anticipation because you both want to succeed but when we saw our marks it was double the relief,’’ Anton said.
“We have been academic but we definitely had to put in a lot of extra work this year and definitely push our limits.’’
The Roselea Football Club players hope the support they shared in high school can continue at university.
“I’d never really expected we would do the same course,’’ Anton said.
“It will be helpful because we can continue the bond.’’
Luke, who achieved ninth place in NSW for modern history, was equally floored by the marks.
“It was very shocking because the ATARs were released at 6am and we couldn’t sleep in anticipation,’’ he said.
“I didn’t think I’d do so well.’’
Anton hopes to work in policy making after completing the five-year course while Luke hopes to practise law.
