Calls to fix dangerous Dundas intersection labelled the ‘worst corner’ in the region

The “dicey” Dundas intersection of Quarry and Kissing Point roads has been labelled “worst corner” in the area by a Parramatta councillor.

A Parramatta councillor has called for turning restrictions at a Dundas black spot in an effort to ease congestion and dangerous driving.

Pierre Esber has suggested no right turns to be enforced from Quarry Rd into Kissing Point Rd and from Kissing Point Rd into Quarry Rd in an effort to reduce traffic bank up.

Problems emerge when cars turn right (near the BP service station) from Quarry Rd into Kissing Point Rd and often merge with vehicles turning right from Kissing Point Rd into Quarry Rd.

“It’s the worst corner in the local government area,’’ he said.

“People who don’t know the area block lanes, left right and centre.’’

Cr Esber wants the no right turns to be enforced from 6am to 9am and from 3pm to 7pm, on weekdays.

He also suggested a slip lane could open from Kissing Point Rd into Quarry Rd to alleviate congestion.

He said several accidents went unreported but he witnessed plenty at the State Government-owned intersection.

“In the last 12 months I’ve seen four or five bingles which slows up the traffic,’’ he said.

“People jump across a couple of lanes. They nearly cleaned me up a couple of months ago. I was turning from Quarry Rd to Kissing Point Rd.’’

Parramatta Council’s traffic committee has sent a request for the RMS to investigate the site and is awaiting a report.

However, Cr Esber is concerned the RMS data might not reflect the number of prangs at the site, where collisions are often unreported.

“When you have a bingle and you back up to someone’s car, that’s not reported,’’ he said.

“Ask the locals — we know a lot more.’’

Cr Esber said Carlingford’s population boom had increased congestion and placed more pressure on local roads such as Kissing Point and made the black spot even worse.

The RMS report should be completed by March.
