Police are searching for a white or silver Toyota Corolla involved in a fatal hit and run in Sydney’s west.
The cyclist, a 66-year-old man from Cammeray, died after he was hit by the car at the intersection of Harry Ave and Maud St, Lidcombe, at 4.45pm on Tuesday.
The man died at the scene and has yet to be formally identified.
Officers from Auburn police established a crime scene and have started investigating the death.
Detective inspector Katie Orr, in charge of the crash investigation unit described the scene which witnesses attended as “horrific.”
“We’re urging the driver of the white or silver Corolla to hand themselves in at the nearest police station so they can be spoken to further.
“The driver would be aware that they crashed into this cycle. it’s very callous.”
The car failed to stop after the crash and police are appealing for public assistance to locate it and the driver.
“There were witnesses at the scene who did come forward and rendered aid to the cyclists,” Det. Insp. Orr said.
“I believe the driver definitely understood what occurred.”
The car is described as being a white or silver sedan. It was being driven by a woman of Asian appearance believed to be aged in her 30s.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
