Men charged over alleged assault on female police officer at Toongabbie

Two men will face court after allegedly assaulting a female police officer at Toongabbie station on Sunday morning.

Two men have been charged after allegedly assaulting police and resisting arrest in Toongabbie at the weekend.

Police say Cumberland police were called to Toongabbie station at 2am on Sunday, May 5, over concerns for the welfare of a woman.

Officers saw two men aggressively approach a man and a woman and intervened.

A 26-year-old man, with an apparent cut to his face, is alleged to have pushed a female police officer in the chest.

In attempting to arrest the man who pushed her, the officer was then allegedly grabbed by a 28 year-old-man from behind, before she was assaulted again by the first man.

A second police officer came to the aid of his colleague forcing the two men to release their grip, before capsicum spray was used

The 28-year-old man attempted to flee the scene but was arrested after a short chase.

Parramatta police assisted and both men were placed under arrest.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Westmead Hospital and treated for a cut to his head.

Both men were later taken to Granville Police Station and charged.

The 28-year-old-man was charged with two counts of assault police officer in the execution of duty.

The 26-year-old is facing the same charges plus another for resist officer in execution of duty.

They were granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on May 15.
