Joshua Stanley-Jones has come a long way since he began playing rugby league in his grandfather’s backyard.
The 15-year old is one of the North Ryde Hawks’ fastest rising stars.
Off the back of a breakout 2015 season where he was voted Best Forward, Josh took another tremendous step forward this year and added to another Best Forward trophy by claiming the club’s “Gary Webster Memorial Club Player Of The Year” award.
“His attitude, work ethic and willingness to improve were the attributes that, along with his obvious football talent, made him a standout for this prized Club perpetual award,” said North Ryde Hawks President Glenn Hillier.
Josh has also impressed beyond the club level, making an impact with the U/15 Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Development Squad and earning a spot with their Harold Matthews side.
“From a young age he would play all the time in the backyard with his grandad,” said Joshua’s mother Megan.
“Pretty much any sport he’ll have a go at but league is where his heart is.”
Joshua is now in the running to become the Northern District Times’ Junior Sports Star of the Year, sponsored by Rebel.
Nominations close this Friday.
