Three students from Ryde Secondary College have been selected to take part in the AFL’s NSW/ACT Stephen Coniglio talent camp this weekend.

Year 9 students Matthew Widiono and Aiden Son will join Year 10 student Nenyasha Muonde at the multicultural camp after their athleticism helped them stand out from 150 other potential candidates.

The AFL conducted athletic tests across 15 schools in February in order to determine 25 of the best multicultural prospects in the state.

Greater Western Sydney Giants player Coniglio will be on hand at the Redfern camp to help conduct a number of training sessions to improve the boys’ game and skill development.

A team of 19 standouts from the camp will be selected to represent NSW/ACT in the All Nations Cup at Blacktown in April.

From there, they will have an opportunity to join the GWS Youth Academy.

Ryde Secondary College’s AFL coach Rob McGinn says he is delighted that the students are getting the chance to make their mark in the sport.

“Ryde is participating in the Sporting Schools Youth Pilot Program. This initiative brought the AFL to the school last year, so this is an outstanding result after such a short incubation period,” he said.
