Macquarie Ice Rink ice dancing duo William Badaoui and Matilda Friend put together two personal bests to finish sixth at the Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan last week.
The pair followed up a score of 42.56 in the short dance with 63.42 in the free dance section to finish with an overall score of 105.98.
“Regardless of the mistakes, all the technical parts of the program were still good,” Friend said.
“We had wobbles at the beginning and fitness problems but when we got to our elements we could focus and regroup and got it out technically.”
The ice dancing gold medal went to the Chinese pair Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu.
Badaoui and Friend will be home for two weeks before heading to the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Taiwan.
“We have to go back and modify our programs and it’s just going to be about drilling the fitness and getting another personal best,” Friend said.
“Our big goal is to perform well enough in the short so that we can qualify through to the free dance.”
