A man accused of robbing tins of baby formula from a Sydney Woolworths armed with a knife has faced court for the first time.
Mohammad Nabi Rezaee, 39, from Silverwater, entered Woolworths on Eastwood’s Rowe street just before 3pm on June 23.
Police allege Rezaee then went to the baby formula aisle and put five tins of A2 baby formula into his black backpack before trying to leave the store.
It is alleged after a Woolworths employee stopped and searched Rezaee’s bag he confiscated two tins of the formula when a struggle ensued.
Police allege Rezaee then pulled out a 30cm-long black handled knife with a silver blade and threatened the employee before leaving with three tins.
After an appeal he was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery two weeks after the alleged robbery.
Rezaee, who is in custody, appeared via screen for a brief mention at Burwood Local Court this week where his lawyer said one police statement was still outstanding and an extension of brief orders was granted.
Bail was not applied for and formally refused.
He will reappear via AVL with a Farsi interpreter in September.
