A man has faced court after the alleged murder of his nine-week-old baby in Sydney’s west.
The 46-year-old from Auburn was arrested by child police abuse detectives at about 5.20am yesterday (August 20) and charged with one count of murder.
The arrest comes almost two months after emergency services were called to a home in Auburn following reports of an unresponsive baby on June 27.
The nine-week-old was taken to hospital in a critical condition until he was removed from life support and died at Sydney Children’s Hospital on July 20.
In court, his lawyer did not make an application for bail and it was formally refused.
He sat quietly, wearing a face mask and black leather jacket as his matter was heard at Burwood Local Court on Friday.
He was supported by a family member who nodded at him as he left the dock.
Magistrate Lisa Stapleton told the court “this is a charge of the most serious type and a strictly indictable matter.”
She ordered a brief to be served and the matter will return to the same court on October 21.
