A child at a northwest Sydney primary school has described how he and his classmates armed themselves with scissors and cowered in the corner of a classroom during a lockdown.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and police believe two males are still on the run after a stolen car ploughed into a school fence yesterday afternoon at Eastwood Public School.

Police attempted to pull over the stolen Honda Odyssey in West Ryde about 2.45pm before calling off a pursuit for safety reasons. The stolen car then hit another vehicle and crashed through the school fence on Shaftsbury Rd.

Police said the occupants of the stolen car ran into the school, triggering a lockdown, including a 15-year-old who was driving the car.

Police arrested the boy at Eastwood train station a short time later. As at this morning, police were still looking for two other males also believed to be in the stolen car.

Year 5 student Hamish, 11, said his class was in lockdown between 2.47pm and 3.32pm.

He said when he heard the police helicopter he hid in the corner.

“I did not know what to do. Everyone was really nervous,” he said.

He said some of the children in the class were holding scissors and his teacher held the door shut.

He said one child in the class thought he saw an offender.

“Someone in the class said they saw a kid outside dressed in black,” he said.

Eastwood resident Simon Zhou said shopkeepers alerted him to the “car accident” about 3.15pm.

“There was a car accident here and there was a person police wanted to speak to he ran into the Eastwood Public School,’’ Mr Zhou, who is also Ryde’s Deputy Mayor said.

“A lot of people are concerned about it; now I can see they’re relieved.”

A parent at the scene, who did not want to be named, said the children were kept inside during the incident until an all-clear was given.

“The school was in lockdown until about 3.30pm,’’ she said.

“We were just waiting outside. The school told us what was happening they are great with communication.”

The mother said that a school representative came out of the school grounds to explain what was happening to parents during the lockdown.

Officers from Ryde police with the assistance of PolAir and the dog unit conducted a search of the area. At 4.30pm children were seen back playing in the school courtyard.

The driver of a Holden Commodore, a man aged 47, was not injured after his vehicle was hit in the initial crash.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to Ryde Police Station after he was arrested.

When he was searched police allegedly located the key to another stolen vehicle.

He was charged with two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, goods in custody, driver never licensed, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

The fraud offence allegedly happened on Wednesday, November 21. He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday, December 17
