One dead, one hospitalised after car crash on Old Prospect Rd
A man has died and his passenger has had a lucky escape after their car hit a pole in Sydney’s west during the wild weather.
A man in his 40s has died after his car hit a pole in Sydney’s west.
Police investigating a fatal crash at South Wentworthville on Wednesday night have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
At about 7pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to Old Prospect Rd after reports that a vehicle had hit a pole, in South Wentworthville.
The male driver was treated at the scene but could not be revived, suffering serious injuries and resulting in a cardiac arrest. Miraculously, a 29 year old male passenger waled away from the scene without any injuries, after being assessed by paramedics.
Police from Cumberland established a crime scene at the location and will prepare a report for the coroner.
A care flight helicopter also attended the scene on the corner of Old Prospect and Chelmsford Rd in South Wentworthville.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for anyone who may have seen or have dashcam footage in the lead-up to the crash to come forward.
Holroyd SES had three teams out in the field during the storms yesterday. A warning was sent to residents in Merrylands, Girraween, South Wentworthville and Westmead which experienced water inundation, a tree down, and flooding.
The Holroyd Unit responded to some 23 calls for help in Girraween, Greystanes, Guildford, Guildford West, Merrylands, Merrylands West, South Wentworthville, Wentworthville, Westmead and Yenorra.
Across Sydney there were 83 crashes, 10 an hour, with 20 people hospitalised all before 6pm.
Acting Superintendent Steve Vaughan from NSW Ambulance said: “Between 6am and 12pm NSW paramedics attended 47 motor vehicle accidents, 33 in Sydney itself.”
