When did you move to this suburb and why?
I discovered Beecroft in repeated visits from southern Sydney with my parents who were supporting Beecroft Bowling Club in the 1950s. I walked the streets as a very young gardener, safely I might add, while my parents played bowls, and I fell in love with the private gardens, the trees and the unique beauty and atmosphere of the superb.
What do you like most about living there?
The friendly community and the fierce advocacy of the locals to protect the suburb’s trees and gardens.
What do you enjoy doing on the weekend?
After 2GB’s Garden Clinic Show, now in its 39th year, I love to come home and work in our garden.
What is your favourite cafe/restaurant/bar and why?
Sevardi’s without a doubt. Toni, Narcissi and Sino are the hardest-working long-term restaurateurs in Beecroft. My family’s adults and grandchildren love their meals and company. We always celebrate milestones at Sevardi’s.
What is your best memory from living in this area?
Living and working with all our family locally. The children and later grandchildren growing up in the community.
Do you have a favourite park or outdoor space?
Without a doubt our precious Village Green. Planting and nurturing the trees in this park with my family and local friends is for the future — love it.
What do you wish you could change about your suburb?
Increase involvement of the new residents to Beecroft now we suddenly have over 600 new families in our once-quiet suburb. Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust, and recently the mayor and new councillors from Hornsby Shire Council, are now working hard to amend the neglect and arrogance of the past.
