When did you move to this suburb and why?

My wife and I moved to Cherrybrook in 2001 quite by accident. We had looked at houses in Castle Hill and were en route to more sales in Hornsby when we saw a sign advertising “Cherry Burgers” at a Cherrybrook cafe. We had a quick bite then noticed a house among the trees that was in our budget. We still laugh if it wasn’t for the Cherry Burger we wouldn’t be here!

What do you like most about living there?

To pinch a phrase from The Castle — “How’s the serenity”. I absolutely love the leafy aspect of The Hills. It’s so peaceful and waking up to find a multitude of bird life on your deck — even the brush turkeys — is a great way to start your day. We have a cockatoo literally tap his beak on the window every morning demanding a feed. It’s also really central. A trip to the beach, the Blue Mountains, the city or Central Coast is not that hard.

What is your best memory from living in this area?

Watching my three kids perform on stage for the Carlingford School of Dance at the old Hills Centre was special. Then there’s other things like having to slow down on Boundary Rd the other week to allow a giant wallaby to hop across. And let’s just say watching any Parramatta Eels win on the big screen at West Pennant Hills Sports Club is an occasion to savour.

What do you enjoy doing on the weekend?

Covering sport for a living (on Fox Sports) means my weekends are pretty chaotic with work. But when I do get some spare time I enjoy taking the kids for a bike ride, a bush walk or just kick the footy around.

Do you have a favourite park or outdoor space?

Greenway Park in Cherrybrook is ideal if you want to have a kick. Hazlewood Rose Park at Carlingford is a little gem where you can laze away a Sunday afternoon with a coffee while the kids ride their bikes and use the playground.

What is your favourite cafe/restaurant/bar and why?

I very much enjoy a cappuccino/Sexy Chicken combo from Lil Cilantro in Cherrybrook. I don’t really have a go-to restaurant — but I CAN recommend a good pie or quiche — Fiesta Bakery at Appletree Shops is the place.

What do you wish you could change about your suburb?

I’d love to see two more lanes on New Line Rd between Cherrybrook and Round Corner. The traffic congestion is unbelievable in peak hour (during the week), and on Saturday mornings, due to (people travelling to) junior sport. A few extra parking spots at Cherrybrook Village shops would be nice too, please.
