An Asian restaurant in Sydney’s north west has been peppered with racist and white supremacy slogans.

The Thai Place restaurant on Beecroft Rd at Epping was sprayed with swastika’s, KKK, anti-immigrant and anti-Semitic messages, along with racial slurs last month and has yet to be cleaned.

Co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian JewryAlex Ryvchin was quick to condemn the images which have begun circulating online via Twitter.

“The words “kill Jews”, alongside swastikas and the insignia of the SS, the Nazi paramilitaries that carried out the genocide of the European Jews, daubed on a building in Sydney is a ghastly sight that will provoke anger, fear and shock among many in my community,” he said.

“There is a substantial Jewish community in Sydney’s north and this will certainly foster a sense of unease, particularly among older members of the community, many of whom are themselves survivors of the Holocaust, the very genocide that is glorified in this graffiti.”

Mr Ryvchin said the graffiti should be a concern to the people of Epping in light of recent events in Christchurch.

“Certainly, the presence of people possessing such hateful and violent ideologies will be of concern,” he said

“The risk that violent speech will develop into violent acts is a very real one.”

Parramatta Council, which covers the Epping suburb, confirmed that a clean up of the walls were taking place.

“(A) cleansing services team is currently onsite and in the process of removing the offensive graffiti after receiving approval from the shop owner to access the property,” a council spokeswoman said.

Epping Ward Labor councillor Donna Davis said she was alerted to the graffiti early Thursday morning.

“I contacted council officers at City of Parramatta immediately to ask if any action has been taken. My understanding is that council’s cleansing team are going to remove the graffiti. If I had been made aware earlier I would have taken the same quick action,” she said.

There are at least six Asian or South East Asian restaurants within the same block of Thai Place where the graffiti was made.
