A man accused of driving a car involved in a head-on crash that killed his girlfriend has fronted court.
Alec Vidot-Coleman, 22, fronted Burwood Local Court on Wednesday facing six charges over the fatal collision at West Ryde last December.
Emergency services were called after Vidot-Coleman’s blue Nissan allegedly crashed into a Toyota Camry on Victoria Road near West Parade about 10.15pm on December 14.
He and his girlfriend Scarlett Lenehan, who was a passenger, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Ms Lenehan, a former student at prestigious all girls’ school Loreto Kirribilli, passed away in hospital.
Two others were also injured as a result of the crash.
Vidot-Coleman was later arrested at his Carlingford home on New Year's Eve and was charged with six offences.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.
The athlete was also charged with driving furiously causing bodily harm, driving recklessly and negligent driving offences.
Vidot-Coleman sat quietly wearing a navy suit on Wednesday as his matter was heard for a brief mention.
In court his lawyer sought a four week extension for files to be served yet magistrate Susan Horan said she had already granted an extension previously.
The prosecutor told the court the officer in charge had only provided a statement yesterday that was 28 pages.
“This matter is a dangerous driving occasioning death. It’s a complex matter,” the prosecutor told the court.
“We need some time to consider its contents and certify the charge.”
Magistrate Horan said, “It’s been in court since February.”
“My understanding is the officer was unwell and that was the reason for the lengthy delay,” the prosecutor replied.
The magistrate granted an extension to September 23.
Vidot-Coleman has been excused on the next occasion.
