Witnesses to one-punch assault being sought

POLICE are investigating an alleged one-punch assault of a 68-year-old man at Brookvale on January 21 that left the victim lying stunned on the ground.

POLICE are investigating an alleged one-punch assault of a 68-year-old man at Brookvale on January 21 that left the victim lying stunned on the ground.

The incident occurred outside a fast-food outlet on the eastern side of Pittwater Rd at 11.50pm.

The alleged assault followed a verbal altercation between the two men and despite the attempted intervention of a third man.

It is only when the third man turned away that the alleged attacker punched the older man, who fell to the footpath.

As the alleged attacker walked away, the man on the ground yelled obscenities at him and shouted that he was going to call the police.

Meanwhile the third man ensured that the alleged attacker did not return to the scene.

The incident was captured on a mobile phone and the video has been uploaded to Facebook and has been viewed by more than 80,000 people.

Northern Beaches crime manager Insp Craig Wonders said police are investigating the incident and urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police.

The attacker was described as of medium build and with dark hair, and was wearing a light-coloured shirt and dark pants.
