WHALE Beach has made the national list of the 10 most expensive suburbs in Australia, a new property report reveals.
The exclusive beachside enclave – a favourite hideaway of the rich and famous – has a median house value of $3,307,451, according to CoreLogic RP Data.
The median, which was calculated as at December, 2015, put Whale Beach in 10th place, just a nose behind Double Bay on $3,323,665 and the only suburb outside Sydney to make the list, Perth’s Peppermint Grove on $3,564,725.
Other suburbs to make the list include Centennial Park (median value $6,295,973), Point Piper ($5,898,542), Darling Point ($5,820,051), Vaucluse ($4375,781), Bellevue Hill ($4,346,180), Tamarama ($3,762,594), and Dover Heights ($3,594,684).
Whale Beach has become a popular getaway for Australia’s well-heeled.
One of the most recent new resident, Google Australia boss Maile Carnegie and her husband Charles paid $3.52 million for a four-bedroom home in Malo Rd with beach views, lift access and indoor pool among the long list of luxury features.
She joins former Facebook executive Matthew Hehman and his wife Alice Yan-Li Lin, who bought a classic beach house in nearby Morella Rd for $2.355m in January, 2015.
Former WorleyParsons CEO and billionaire John Grill has owned his piece of Whale Beach since late 2012. He paid $13.1 million for the property known as The Wedge, on Whale Beach Rd.
This home takes position and luxury to a whole new level – almost 1400sq m of absolute beachfront land ending at the sand’s edge, and a spectacular Hamptons-style home with six bedrooms, commercial grade kitchen and self-contained accommodation.
