UFO sighting in Dee Why: Early morning walkers witness strange disc-like object in sky

Was it a plane? Was it a weather balloon? What on earth was hovering in the sky at Dee Why yesterday morning?

Possible UFO

WAS the strange light hovering in the sky over Dee Why Beach on Wednesday morning a UFO?

Local resident Don Jeffery said it definitely wasn’t a plane and was open to the idea that it was a UFO.

Mr Jeffery, who goes for 20km walks before work every morning, noticed a large gathering of people on the beachfront promenade about 6.35am.

Possible UFO

“A lot of people were gazing skywards, about 20 or 30, and I asked what it was,” he said.

“Some of them thought it could be a UFO and another person suggested it was a plane coming in to land, but it stayed in the same spot for 10 minutes and it looked like it had a tail.

“I took three photos but I didn’t think much more about it until I came home from work and enlarged the photo on my computer.

“It’s brighter than the sun and it looked like a disc-like object — I’ve never seen anything like it before.

“I like to keep an open mind and with all of those galaxies out there I think there must be other life.”

In 2012, a man claimed he saw two UFOs hovering over the ocean off Collaroy, describing bright purple and blue lights above the ocean at 5am.

In 2011, a Dee Why man was also convinced he saw two UFOs flying over the northern beaches at dawn.

While the President of UFO Research (NSW), Mariana Flynn, said they had no UFO sighting reports called in on Wednesday she did confirm that Collaroy was a “hotspot”.

“I don’t know why it’s considered a hot spot to be honest, but I have wondered about underground sea bases,” Ms Flynn said.

“Unfortunately there is no proof of this, but I have conclusively seen three UFO sightings.

“I absolutely believe there are UFOs, but all of the (US military) research is so covert and classified.”

UFO Research NSW spokesman Doug Moffett, in a previous interview with the Manly Daily, said he was not surprised by the report because UFO sightings were quite common on the northern beaches.

“I know there’s been many stories in The Manly Daily over the years, particularly around the Narrabeen Lakes area,’’ he said.

“It tends to be an area where from time to time there seems to be activity.

“We are not sure of course why that’s the case.”

UNIDENTIFIED Flying Objects were spotted drifting over Mt Annan in December last year, with readers sending images to sister paper the Macarthur Chronicle of a mysterious light moving across the sk.

The reader, a local business owner who did not wish to be named, said she and her family watched the four UFOs pass over their home.

“They were very high up in the sky, too high for a helicopter and distinctly round and definitely not a plane of any sort. They glided very fast and with no sound,” she said.

“The first was a green glowing disc, the shape was very prominent. We watched in amazement as it travelled from Campbelltown directly over the Cascades and towards Camden. It travelled slowly enough for us to watch it the entire time, never lost its colour or shine and the speed was constant.”
