JAKE Trbojevic says he wants to remain at Manly following reports St George Illawarra were poised to make a $6 million offer to poach him and brother Tom for 2018.
It was claimed the underachieving Dragons had targeted the outstanding Mona Vale juniors with massive three-year offers — and that caught Trbojevic off-guard.
“It was news to me,” Jake told the Manly Daily. “Me and Tom are both signed until the end of next year. “I haven’t even thought about it. I want to stay here.”
There would be an uprising from Manly fans if either of the local juniors was to leave the northern beaches.
Outstanding forward Jake, arguably the NRL’s best defender, said he and Tom would love to keep playing together, even though they had not specifically discussed it.
“But you don’t know what happens, moving forward,” he said. “Footy is a weird game. Anything can happen but, obviously, you want to stay with your brother.
“It’s very special. You get to do it for Manly, our local club where we grew up. It’s really cool.”
Trbojevic’s focus is on the Sea Eagles’ remaining three games, starting with tomorrow’s game against the Storm at Brookvale, with a 5.30pm kick-off.
“We want to finish the season strong and win every game and get some momentum going into next year,” Trbojevic said.
“We’ve got a couple of games in a row against tough teams at Brookie and we want to show everyone what we can do.
“It is positive, there is a lot of confidence there.
“There is a lot of pride at stake, obviously.
“We’ve also got a captain (Jamie Lyon) retiring and we’d like to send him off a winner.
“There is plenty to play for.”
And Trbojevic said he was still as enthusiastic as he was as at the start of the season.
“Every game you go out there you want to win, no matter what’s at stake,” he said.
“We can’t make the finals but we are all proud individuals.”
