A HAIRDRESSER from Terrey Hills got the shock of her life when she turned round to find a well-fed 2.5m diamond python relaxing in her garden.

Erin Beverley, 32, said she had lived at the property which consists of several acres for two years and had seen plenty of wildlife — red-bellied black snakes, eagles, yabbies in the creek, wild rabbits and lots of birds — but nothing quite as eye-popping as this sizeable reptile.

“I was raking the yard when I noticed my dog was stood still staring at something,” said Ms Beverley. I turned to follow his gaze and saw this really big snake.”

She said it was lying across a handrail over a small wooden bridge, which her parents had crossed just ten minutes before.

She believed the python to be about 2.5m in length.

“When I saw it I thought, ‘Oh my God’ and ran to get my camera,” said Ms Beverley.”

Having quickly determined it was a diamond python, she wasn’t concerned for her own safety, but her two-year-old staffy Rocco, who sensibly stayed well back. She was also concerned about her 19 pet chickens.

However, Ms Beverley said none of her chooks had gone missing and assumed the snake must be getting fat on the dozens of wild rabbits that live on her property.

She said shortly after the photo, the python moved to a nearby tree for a doze.

“When my boyfriend got home, I showed him the sleeping snake wrapped around the tree, but in the morning it was gone,” she said.

Ms Beverley said despite the initial shock, she was quite relaxed about living alongside a diamond python.
