Puppy given oxygen after being found by fire fighters doing hazard reduction burn

A puppy’s life was saved by a paramedic who gave the dying hound oxygen. Medics also put the tiny dog on a drip before she was rushed to a northern beaches vet with her sister, who was also in a bad way.

Allambie Vets is now taking care of the pair, who are thought to have been dumped in the bush.

They were discovered by Rural Fire Service volunteers carrying out hazard reduction burning at Hilltop, west of Wollongong.

Paramedics were on hand because of the burn, and rushed to the aid of the canine patients.

The daughter of Allambie Vet’s owner, Brian Mills, so her south coast colleagues got in touch to ask for advice, and she went and collected them.

“They gave her oxygen and they also gave her fluids, because she was very dehydrated.

“It meant she survived for long enough,” he said.

“They just walked out of the bush.

“They almost certainly were dumped.”

The puppies have got a home to go to- with the firefighter who found them. They’ve been named Jenny and Blaze.

Teams looked for any other puppies but didn’t find any.

Allambie Vet posted on Facebook: “We would usually use a heat pat or warming device to help control the pup’s temperature, but her bigger sister was by her side constantly keeping her warm.

“Thanks to our amazing emergency services for not only looking after us but our pets as well.”
