THE theft of mail from a letterbox at Narrabeen and its subsequent use to fraudulently obtain more than $4000 from the victim has led to police to again urge residents to improve security of their letterboxes.

.

Late last month, the victim asked his bank for a new Visa card but while he was away, the new card and the PIN were stolen from the letterbox of his Ocean St home.

The card was fraudulently used at Sydney, Dee Why, Potts Point, Five Dock, Narrabeen and Manly to obtain $4002.

This week letterboxes in Goodwin St, Mactier St and Park St at Narrabeen were targeted and mail was stolen or removed from letterboxes and abandoned on the ground.

In some cases, the locks on the letterboxes were broken but in other cases the mail was removed without the locks being damaged.

Police urge residents to empty their letterbox as regularly as possible, ensure the locks on their letterboxes are secure and to see if financially-sensitive items such as credit cards can be collected from the issuing institution, rather than posted.
