A MOBILE vet clinic is planned to help wallabies and other animals hit by cars on northern beaches roads.

A MOBILE vet clinic is planned to help wallabies and other animals hit by cars on northern beaches roads.

Dedicated volunteers from Sydney Wildlife are working on a plan which would see local vets team up to rush to accidents involving animals on the roads.

Sydney Wildlife volunteers have approached Planning Minister and Pittwater MP Rob Stokes about the plan, and said local vets were also keen to help.

The Wildlife Roadkill Prevention Association said more than 720 swamp wallabies had been killed on major northern beaches roads since April 2010,

Sydney Wildlife volunteer Jacquie Marlow has been to 181 wallaby accidents over five years – and all died.

Sydney Wildlife volunteer Lynleigh Greig said: “Sydney Wildlife are in the incipient stages of setting up a Mobile Wildlife Clinic. This is to counteract the problems which are occurring for our wildlife as a direct result of habitat-loss.”

Mona Vale Rd and the Wakehurst Parkway are hot spots. There is only one animal crossing, though more are planned.

The news comes following an outpouring on Facebook page Northern Beaches Pets, after a wallaby was hit on Mona Vale Rd this week.

Driver Helen Pearce tried to get the injured animal, which was still alive, off the road, and police diverted traffic. It later died.
