Nursery raided five times, believed to be by landscapers
THIEVES have hit a nursery five times in two months stealing thousands of dollars worth of plants — and the suspects are landscapers.
- High rise blocks for George Piggins’ garden oasis
- Hot spots for Jacarandas
- Grave robbers nick $300k of brass vases
THIEVES have stolen plants up to $10,000 from a nursery on Sydney’s northern beaches — and the suspects are believed to be landscapers.
Flower Power, which has been in Macpherson St, Warriewood, for more than 20 years, has been targeted five times since October.
General manager Jamie Currie said he believes the thieves are landscapers because the plants they steal are so specific in type and number.
He said thieves are walking past plants that cost $100 to steal a plant worth $20.
“They’re very selective in what they steal,” Mr Currie said.
“There’s nothing consistent about the plants being stolen, other than that they appear to be for specific jobs.
“It means local residents having landscaping done at their homes are inadvertently receiving stolen goods.”
Mr Currie said the nursery was robbed three times in October and twice this month.
On Thursday last week plants worth more than $1000 were stolen and then another theft occurred over the weekend.
After the first thefts, CCTV cameras were installed but the thieves found a blind spot in the coverage when they struck next.
Northern Beaches police are investigating the thefts and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The plants stolen last Thursday were:
■ 5 Spathiphyllum Pearl
■ 2 Philodendron Xanadu
■ 8 Cordyline Purple Prince
■ 3 Pink Diamond
■ 10 Begonia Inca Night
■ 28 Indian summer
