RUGBY league immortal Bob Fulton made a career out of finding gaps in the opposition’s defensive walls, now he wants to make his own barrier to stop waves hitting his Narrabeen home.
Fulton and a group of residents just north of the Collaroy strip, which was battered by savage storms this month, met with Northern Beaches Council late yesterday.
Fulton said the meeting was “conciliatory” and a seawall would probably proceed.
The meeting revealed it could cost anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000 per metre of beach covered.
However, part of that cost could be lessened by the fact old rocks from a previous sea wall could be used.
“We have got a coastal engineer who is savvy with the council, we have a builder; as soon as it is ready it will happen,” Fulton said.
“From the point of view of the stakeholders, we are all willing to do our bit to make this work. It has just got to happen.
“There has been very few events like this. We have been here for 33 years and in that time there has been three really bad storms but probably none as bad as the last one.
“We want it to happen because you never know when an event like this will happen again. It can sneak up on you like that last one.
A development application will likely be lodged on behalf of all residents, which will include parts of the council’s property. It is unclear if the council would provide extra funding.
Mr Ferguson said the council was “keen to work with the landowners to facilitate the best outcome.”
