Northern beachers glam couple Richard Roxburgh and Silvia Colloca talk pizza, school and fame

THEY could snap their fingers and get a table at any of Sydney’s best eateries. But there’s nothing northern beaches couple Richard Roxburgh and Silvia Colloca like more than a pizza at their local.

THEY could snap their fingers and get a table at any of Sydney’s best eateries. But there’s nothing glam couple Richard Roxburgh and Silvia Colloca like more than a pizza at their local.

The acclaimed actor and his actor and chef wife can often be found indulging in the Italian favourite at the newly revamped venue, The Newport, which is run by Justin Hemmes’s Merivale firm.

“We are keeping Merivale afloat!” Roxburgh said. “We are down there for a pizza, we like that.”

The couple, and children Raffi, 9, and Miro, 5, live just a short walk away from the venue after shifting from one side of the peninsula to the other.

They sold their lavish pad at Bilgola Plateau at Christmas for just under $2 million, to snap up a clifftop property at Bungan.

And while their old house had a kitchen to please Colloca — she called it “magical” and had the photos for her cook books shot there — Roxburgh revealed the new one was not up to her standards just yet.

“It’s going to be a work in progress,” he said, with a laugh.

And Roxburgh, 54, whose movies include Moulin Rouge, Van Helsing and Mission Impossible II said they were never leaving the beaches, because of the lifestyle they could have.

“We are never moving again. I said to Sylvia — this is it now,” he said.

“Everything’s walkable and it’s great for the boys.

“We are pretty private. We love our life. It’s a part of what’s so special about living on the northern beaches. You can have that life. The boys go to Bilgola Public which is the most wonderful little school, they love it.”

And while life at home is quiet, Roxburgh’s career is busier than ever.

He will make his Broadway debut this year alongside Cate Blanchett.

The pair are starring in Chekhov play, The Present, and the rest of the family will join him in New York during the festive season.

“It’s the first time that an all-Australian cast will be going to Broadway,” he said.

“Cate — she’s so special. I love working with her.”

Meanwhile, his hit TV legal show, Rake, returned last night on ABC, and he said “very big things are afoot,” for Cleaver Greene.

Plus his first children’s book, Artie And The Grime Wave, inspired by fun-loving writers such as Roald Dahl and David Walliams, is out in October
