A LOT has changed but a lot has remained the same since this old photo of the Ocean St bridge over Narrabeen Lagoon was taken, probably in the 1930s.
In the foreground are cars that these days would only be found in museums or driven occasionally by vintage car club members.
And transport was far more pedestrian.
The old camping area on the northern side of the lagoon has certainly changed, with tents replaced by caravans and cabins.
Naturally there’s been a lot of development on the hills in the background but the trees planted along the northern bank of the lagoon do a good job of obscuring them from view.
As has happened since the lagoon was formed thousands of years ago, the sandbanks near the mouth of the lagoon have moved about a bit.
Narrabeen Lagoon has and always will be a jewel in the crown of the northern beaches and a drawcard for locals and tourists alike.
