A NEW-look food court and “rustic farmers market” has opened at Warringah Mall as part of the centre’s $310 million redevelopment.

Along with a new 1200-space carpark, it is the first phase of the overhauled mall to be unveiled.

Several new retailers aimed at the ethical, health conscious shopper, have moved in next to Woolworths, including The Natural Butcher, Top Juice, Naked Foods, oFarm, Sourdough and Banana Blossom.

Other staples such as SamJon Seafood, Simply Noodles and the Swiss Deli have returned. Michael Honeysett from The Natural Butcher said they prided themselves on their “paddock to plate” service.

“Our meat is all clean and hormone free,” he said.

“It’s all completely traceable, which is what shoppers want these days.”

TV celebrities Will Stewart and Steve Flood officially opened the area and cooked a few recipes from their new cookbook, which comes out later this year, at a permanent demonstration area.

Flood, who won last year’s My Kitchen Rules TV show with Stewart, said he was excited too see so many natural, organic, healthy products and that he could buy foods, such as fresh spices in small amounts.

“As a local I will no longer have to travel outside of the northern beaches to get some of the food ingredients I want,” he said.

Stewart said the spacious area provided an “experience for the shopper”.

“Shopping centres are having to compete with online retailers, and here it’s all about the experience,” he said.

Karen Skinner, centre manager, said it was great to see so many mums with their children at the launch. “The kids have got juices or yoghurts and the mums have got their coffees,” she said.

“It’s exciting to finally show the shoppers the first phase of the project.”

Flood and Stewart will perform a cookery demonstration at the mall on Saturday afternoon.
