Baby photographs, post cards and children’s drawings are just some of the invaluable bits and pieces that librarian Megan Sadler finds in books after they have been returned.
Ms Sadler said they have been collecting them for a couple of years.
“We have a box next to the returns and we have just been putting them in there each time – we’ve got so many now,” she said.
Ms Sadler said a woman visited the library just last week to inquire about two bookmarks she had lost in succession.
Ms Sadler was able to locate them both.
There are enough of these lost mementos to fill three glass-topped cases which are now on display at Manly Library.
Mayor Jean Hay said there is one birth announcement card dated from 1991.
“Whoever held on to that precious image for so long must surely want to be reunited with it,” she said.
