A membership-based gymnasium will be one key feature of the new state-of-the-art Manly Andrew “Boy” Charlton Swim Centre.
Six months out from completion, the Manly Daily was given a sneak peak at the project, which is nothing short of a leisure complex.
The mastermind behind the project, architect Michael Davies from TompkinsMDA, said despite the development having a difficult beginning, it was time to get excited.
“Over the next six months what will now start to happen is the Manly Community will become more aware of what is being provided for them and they will recognise that this is a very worthwhile facility,” he said.
A series of new artist’s impressions have also been released, showing the new indoor program pool, the indoor 25m eight-lane pool and the new indoor leisure pool for children, complete with a number of fun activities including a wave wall with a small slide, splash rings and a waterfall.
The new centre will also feature a large spa area with a sauna and steam room.
The fully equipped independent membership-based gymnasium on level three will offer group fitness classes. The gym will be run by the council with fees – independent from the pool fees – yet to be established.
The project has faced a much community concern around parking and while Mr Davies agrees more spaces would be better, he said the council had done the best it could to maximise spots. The pool is expected to open mid this year.
