A MAN was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital with head injuries after being struck by a car at Avalon this morning.

A NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the service received calls just before 8am of a pedestrian having been hit by a car at the intersection of Barrenjoey Rd and Avalon Pde.

She said the man, believed to be in his mid-20s, sustained head injuries when he was struck and although the man was conscious throughout, paramedics were concerned for his welfare and an air ambulance was called in.

The air ambulance landed in Dunbar Park, to where the man was taken by a road ambulance.

The man was then flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

Traffic in the area was briefly disrupted.
