ONE of Aussie mega movie Mad Max: Fury Road’s six gleaming Oscars now calls the northern beaches home, with Narrabeen’s Ben Osmo, 64, the proud owner of the Academy Award for sound mixing.

But like all true stars, he was cut off by the music before he got to make his speech.

So Driftwood let Osmo share just what it was he had wanted to say, now he has arrived home in Sydney.

As well as thanking director George Miller and producer Doug Mitchell and the rest of the crew, he also told his wife Alana, daughter Sarah, who now lives in Queensland, and grandchildren Patch and Fox how much he loves them.

He also let the Manly Daily newsroom take selfies with his Oscar — which he brought wrapped in a cloth bag in his very un-Hollywood backpack. And he revealed what it was like to hear his name called.

“I thought The Revenant were going to get it, because they got the BAFTA ... I was convinced,” he said.

“Alana nudged me and said, ‘You better get going’. I just didn’t believe it. It was an out of body experience.”

Osmo, whose job is to record sound on location, has worked on other big-name movies, including Strictly Ballroom, Babe and Dead Calm.

He started out working at an advertising agency, then moved into film production and worked at the ABC.

But it’s not the first Oscar for the northern beaches.

Bayview cinematographer John Seale won for The English Patient in 1997.
