THE search has begun anew for tomorrow's sporting champions.
The 2013 NewsLocal Junior Sports Star competition, which is now open for nominations, recognises achievements of our outstanding young athletes.
The competition, sponsored by sports company Rebel, has a proud history of uncovering future household names while they are in the junior ranks.
Kayaker Jessica Fox, cricketer and footballer Ellyse Perry and discus thrower Dani Samuels are among the stars on the Junior Sports Star honour roll. Last year's overall winner of the NewsLocal medal was Olympic boxer Jai Opetaia. "It was an honour to be recognised," he said.
Other categories include Young Achiever which is focused on an individual who performs soundly in their chosen sport, at any level, with an emphasis on playing the game fairly while the Service to Sport award is for an individual volunteer of a sporting organisation in their local community who shows passion, spirit and determination.
The Team Spirit award is given to one team, across all 19 participating NewsLocal newspapers, that has played fairly and in the spirit of the game.
